Few Chief Corporate Communicators having access to CEO feel heard

Only 29% of Chief Corporate Communicators are a key business advisor to their CEO. This is one of the many findings outlined in a survey conducted this fall by APCO Worldwide, among 114 senior-most communications professionals in various industries across B2B and consumer.

The survey indicated that while the top communication professionals "are getting time with the CEO, they usually don’t feel heard."

Other findings:

89% say they readily have access to the CEO when they need it.

75% indicate the CEO understands the value of their company’s reputation.

62% say the increased importance of social media has made communications more relevant.

52% indicate they report directly to the CEO.

29% say they are a key business advisor to the CEO.

26% indicate they always feel their opinion matters when business-critical decisions are being made.

47% say the communications function is highly integrated or involved throughout the organization.
